Thyroid health, read alongside your cycle.
An underactive thyroid can cause heavy or irregular periods and fertility problems, which is why thyroid blood tests are often part of a fertility work-up.
Your thyroid and your cycle
Why the thyroid comes up.

Where people get enough iodine, the most common cause of an underactive thyroid (hypothyroidism) is Hashimoto’s thyroiditis, a condition where the immune system attacks the thyroid, as a 2017 review in The Lancet explains.
